Just last week many Filipinos devoted themselves to the celebrations they inherited from Spanish heritage. Catholicism is one of the most important among this heritage and it influenced Filipino's tradition and culture.

The Santo Niño celebration is one of the most common celebration that depicts the blended Ancient Filipino culture and Spanish influence. According to history Magellan's troop presented this "Niño" to Raha Humabon and Reyna Maria as a token for their hospitality that made Magellan's troop penetrate the island of Cebu. This couple was then baptized and known to be the first Roman Catholic Filipino during Magellan's expedition.

Today, many Filipinos especially Cebuanos ( people of Cebu Philippines) still commemorate the event every 2nd week of January. The highlight of their celebration is the street dancing which is known as "Sinulog". Colorful clothes and props are used to display the richness of their tradition.

But, a childish question popped out in my mind.. Why is it many people even the government spend lavishly for events like this while many are hungry and have not eaten a meal.

Last year of November "Tatay Tony" told us in his e-mails that he was very busy as a Chef in Arizona USA preparing for the Holiday. I thought it was the preparation for the coming Christmas Season. After it he mailed me again that the busy days were over because the Holiday was already celebrated. Big question flashed my mind? "It was still November and the holiday was over?" I really had to ask him what holiday was it. Now, I can relate to this grand thanksgiving holiday and I know that Americans will be celebrating it again this coming Thursday.
I also searched more about this Thanksgiving that the Americans were Celebrating
Beginning with George Washington in 1789, annual presidential proclamations had declared the last Thursday of November as the Thanksgiving date. However, in 1941, a United States Congressional declaration officially designated the fourth Thursday of November as the date of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Christmas Decor from Recycled Materials

Christmas is in the air. Everyone seems so busy getting stuffs for decoration. We can reuse, recycle dump materials for our decoration. We do not only save money but also we help in promoting the campaign on "Saving Mother Earth".

This decor is made from recycled materials!

See the board where the decors were pasted is part of an old ceiling fan. The green leaveswere from an old decor and the red cloth ribbon was also taken from old clothings!

Blogging His Visit to Pinas 3rd Day

3rd Day Friday morning

Nice morning, it rained last night. I finally found out what that yelling in the street is. At all hours there is a water seller who walks up and down the streets yelling “water, water” over and over. When does this guy sleep? It is absolutely incredible what people sell. There are more entrepreneurs here than in the US . Cell phones, playing cards, water, T shirts, all kinds of construction supplies, every kind of supplies for anything, girlie bars, juice bars, fresh fruit, magazines, cigarettes, gum, anything and everything.

The streets are surprisingly clean; street sweepers come by at night and clean. These are not machines but men who work for the sanitation department and they sweep the streets by hand with a broom. My dentist has a cook and two dental assistants that live with her and her husband.

The girls that work for the dentist are in their early twenties except for the maid/cook who is 17 years old. The employees live there as well. They only get one day off every two weeks but do get the run of the house. They are not allowed in the office area and cannot watch TV in the waiting room after they are finished for the night. The waiting room has HBO. They work from 6:00am to 9:00pm and get their room and board. They are only allowed to leave in pairs; never by themselves. None of the girls are allowed to have boyfriends. The reason is for security purposes. Men target maids to gain access to the house. They can’t be charged with burglary if they didn’t break in but were invited in. The law is very flexible in Manila . When a motorist is stopped on the street for a traffic violation, the individual pays the cop. The traffic police get to keep a third of what they bring in. I have seen two Makati police checkpoints set up on the route I was walking on. They decide, and who knows what the criteria is, to set up and then they start asking for ID and fines. The Makati police get to keep some of the fine also but they make most of their money by setting up foreigners. In an open air restaurant a police informer will give an unsuspecting foreigner a small packet of drugs, and then the police will arrest him. It costs between 20,000 and 80,000php to get free. That’s about $400 to $1600 USD.

Almost everyone sells something, and so polite and cheerful. Yesterday as I was walking back to the hotel I saw a taxi driver pull over and give a poor beggar some food. This is compassion from people who are only just a little bit richer. Taxi drivers don’t make much; I went across town in a taxi for 60php about $1.10 USD. Some little kids begging on the corner were the worst. Their parents were across the street, watching to see how much money they brought in. I guess under these circumstances they have to do what they have to do.

There was some kind of a political demonstration yesterday in Makati . Traffic is horrific anyway but this was 10 times worse. The last thing I want to do is become involved in internal political issues. There was also a local demonstration by the fire department in favor of the opposing side, where they drove through the town with Philippine flags attached to the fire engines. Economic conditions are pretty bad, social conditions are bad, not very bad but bad enough. The men treat the women like trash; more on this later. Lots of gays and lesbians..

Today is Independence Day in Makati . I haven’t been out there yet but I am sure that it will be a nightmare as usual. I can’t wait to leave and go to Mindanao , to Cagayan de Oro. St. Illian’s Inn is the hotel I am staying. It’s located in the slums but, everything else looks the same. What do slums look like? It is a nice hotel, old but well maintained. The cook is excellent, the food is great! I had calderata last night that was outstanding. Perfect marriage of flavors and spicy too! The room is clean and comfortable, has a TV which I don’t watch, newspapers every morning, breakfast at 6:00am. It is cheap too, only 1750php a night($37.00USD a night).

Friday

Today the dentist told me he couldn’t get the anesthetic that I need. Yesterday the dentist gave me the standard anesthetic and I passed out, my blood pressure dropped to 60 over 40 from 140 over 80 in one minute. Very scary indeed! So since I couldn’t get the work done there I left her office, went back to my hotel, checked out, went to the airport and flew to Cagayan de Oro. I stepped from the hell of Manila into the heaven of being with Nona. She is even more wonderful in person than online. She and her family picked me up at the airport and took me to their home. I am staying in the church, in the guest bedroom.

Bad day today! Today I thought I would walk to the dentist office. No big deal, it was only three or four miles, but the streets were never meant for pedestrian traffic. The sidewalks are actually only curbs, and only 12 inches wide and in many places, simply don’t exist. On my way there I found a totally cool outdoor market and walked through it in amazement. There was raw meat and fish not under refrigeration being cut and sold to anyone who asked. Unbelievable amounts and varieties of fruit and veggies. I was only able to identify half of all I saw. I walked almost to the end of the market before I realized that the people in the market did not want me there. It was the strangest feeling! No one said anything to me and no menacing behavior but the feeling was unmistakable. It wasn’t that they hated me or wanted to harm me, I just wasn’t welcome. I turned around and walked out of the market. While I was there I saw another variety of police. I have seen so many kinds of police. There are the Makati city police, traffic police, the barangay police, peacekeepers, and sewer police. The people love uniforms, it’s incredible the number and kinds of uniforms. It’s not that they have uniforms, we have uniforms. Its that they take their uniforms seriously. Secretaries have uniforms.

There are all these cute little kids begging on the street. 4 and 5 year olds with hardly any clothes on, just breaks my heart but they work for the crime syndicate and turn in their begging money for food. The taxi drivers have been having a hard time finding the hotel, even with a map. How do these guys get jobs if they don’t know the city? Everybody is nice, there is no road rage, no yelling, no flipping other drivers off, its amazing! Today I had the best Japanese food I have ever had in my life. Everything was very fresh and it all tasted like it was supposed to.

Blogging His Visit to the Philippines 1st Day

My dear Tatay Tony wanted to blog his experiences when he visited the Philippines last June 2009 but he don't have enough time for blogging so he requested me to post it for him.

I came into Manila this evening aboard Asiana Airlines after flying almost 22 hours. What a great airlines; they treated me like gold. The seats were very comfortable and the food and drinks plentiful. I pity the poor folks who flew here in steerage; stacked in like sardines in the back of the plane. Many thanks to Tony Jo for giving me the tickets as a gift; she booked me round trip in business class!

I am staying in a small hotel in the city of Makati , which is a suburb of Manila and contains the main business district for Metro-Manila. The hotel is nice by the standards of a third world country, is very reasonably priced and lies on a quiet back street on the edge of the slums. It is clean, has air conditioning, and a small coffee shop. The hotel looks old and inside it looks like it is about 50 years old and has had numerous repairs, but everything works. I brought two cable locks and lock my suitcases to my bed each day when I leave. The cases are locked but if anyone really wanted to take them they could. My hope is that this is a deterrent and so far this has worked. I receive a daily subtle request for tips in the form of a short note from my room cleaner telling me what a great job he/she is doing and asking for feedback. 20 pesos is considered to be a satisfactory room cleaner tip but I give them all of my change at the end of the day. The conversion of pesos to the dollar is about 49 pesos to the dollar.

My room was up a short flight of stairs that was glassed in on one side and open to the interior on the other. At the top there was a nice balcony with artificial plants in a container attached to the balcony hand rail. The hotel had six floors that could be reached by a circular staircase that didn’t look all that stable and my curiosity wasn’t great enough to find out what the other floors were like.

Today I woke up before the wake up call from the front desk. I couldn’t bring my alarm clock because the Philippines are on 240volts instead of 120 like the states. I had asked for a wake up call at 9:00am but they called at 8:30am. This is one of the fun little quirks that happen here in Manila where time walks to the beat of a different drummer. I found it is useless to complain about the little stuff and its all little stuff. A few social rules for the Philippines : never get angry, always smile, and don’t argue with anyone especially the police.

Breakfast was two eggs over easy with rice and Filipino chicken sausage. Very different to my palate, not the flavors I was expecting from the sausage, more like Chinese sausage and certainly not like American sausage.

The only downside is its location, on the edge of the slums. The hotel staff told me to stay on the main streets and avoid the endlessly twisted back streets and alleys. I am depending on God for guidance in all my choices and this one seems good so far.

On arriving in the Phil I changed some American cash into pesos, at the airport. It was easy I just handed them the cash and they gave me the pesos. The next day I needed to change my dollars into Philippine pesos so I went to the Philippine Land Bank. Whoooeeee, what a huge mistake! They made me jump through all kinds of hoops and sign over my first born child, just to change over a $100 bucks. Never again! After this nightmare I always changed over dollars at the numerous money changers located in the malls.

Today was my first appointment with the dentist and my first experience with Manila taxis. On the way to the dentist (about 3 miles) I only screamed in terror twice. The driver and everyone else on the road all have death wishes. This isn’t transportation it’s a test of nerves in the game called “chicken.” Cars, taxis, buses, jeepneys, and these little motorcycle driven transports all try to squeeze into the same space at the same time. Pedestrians walk in the middle of the street to cross, prisoners on work release sell everything you can possibly imagine in the middle of traffic, beggars and motor cycles are everywhere. It is chaos! My driver actually managed to find about twenty five feet of open space and promptly floored the car. My hands were gripping the seat so tightly that I felt the worn fabric starting to tear and my face had the rictus of the newly dead. Within seconds he had to brake sharply and we missed a couple of pedestrians and a motorcycle by a hair. Meanwhile this road warrior was giving me a running commentary on something but I couldn’t completely understand his broken English, and frankly didn’t care. I just wanted to get there in one piece.

I meet the husband of the dentist. This guy is one of those people that have an opinion about everything. He is a Brit that has lived in Manila for the last 30 years and knows the city well. After my checkup he takes me sightseeing in Manila . His driving is even worse than everyone else’s but I have turned my safety over to God and rest in His protection. We arrive at the Mall of Asia in one piece.

The Mall of Asia is the third largest mall in the world. We spend three hours here looking at various shops, but even if I had three weeks and spent 12 hours a day, every day looking at the mall and it’s adjoining shops and attractions it would not be enough time to see it all. There is even a road that runs through the center of the mall complex.

Watery Wednesday

Enjoying the sight. One of the beautiful spot that Boholanons are proud of. The beautiful river where floating restaurants wait for visitors to dine while the tiny waves and the current of the river sways the ferry boat back and forth loaded with dinning sets and delicious food. An experience one should not missed while visiting Bohol.
We inquired how much per head to dine in the "eat all you can". The price is right for a worthwhile and once in a lifetime experience. But we were in a hurry to visit all scenic spots in the Island of Chocolate Hills during that day so we can catch up the trip back to Cebu that same day! We were not able to experience that restaurant at my back.

Wanted National Costume for U.N.

United Nation was founded after the World War II it was officially organized on October 24, 1945. Philippines is among its 192 members. That is why every October we commemorate U.N's foundation through display of flags and wearing of International costumes.

This morning, my youngest Hannah excitedly showed to me her teacher's note that she will represent the Country of Iran. I want to see the teacher to ask her if she can assign another country for my daughter because I don't really have the clear picture of Iran's costume. But an idea popped out from my mind. Why not search in the web or ask friends from blog world to help me.I know some have the idea. Just link me to your post if you get one. Thanks ahead.

It had been 5 years since I stopped drinking coffee. I quited for a reason healthy food intake. But when my hubby brew this coffee sent by Tatay Tony. Oh my I just can't resist the aroma. At first I just sniffed it in the air. Next, 2 sips from hubby's mug. But then later, half a mug and now I don't think I can go on with my day without it.

I'm glad that Starbucks Coffee will have it's first branch in Cagayan de Oro, located at Lim Ket Kai Mall. surely I will not miss their opening day. I want to have a cup of it. Watch for it Kagay-anons!

Yesterday, some of our brethren came by our house for fellowship. We served starbucks coffee to them and Epay baked this very delicious and mouthwatering cake from Betty Crocker. This cake is perfectly served with the coffee we brew. Everyone was having a great Sunday afternoon.

  Just 3 days ago Presidential sister Kris Aquino's kids were reported to have acquired foot and mouth disease. Different reactions and opinions were made by people who heard the news, like: " pati pala na ang mayayama pwedeng tamaan nito!" "Naku, saan ba nakukuha and ganitong sakit?" " Akala ko mga taong lang na mahilig sa marurumi and nahahawa ng ganitong sakit!". What is shocking is that it does not choose people. Any person from any walks of life can be contaminated with this infection. Even wealthy and famous personality.

   What really is HMFD, what are the symptoms and the remedy of this disease?


   Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a human syndrome caused by intestinal viruses of the Picornaviridae family.

Symptoms Includes:
Fever, Headache, Vomiting, Fatigue, Non-itchy body rash, followed by sores with blisters on palms of hands and soles of feet, Sore throat, Sores or blisters may be present on the buttocks of small children and infants,Loss of appetite and Diarrhea

How It Is Spread

Infection is spread from person to person by direct contact with infectious virus. Infectious virus is found in the nose and throat secretions, saliva, blister fluid, and stool of infected persons. The virus is most often spread by persons with unwashed, virus-contaminated hands and by contact with virus-contaminated surfaces.

Infected persons are most contagious during the first week of the illness.

The viruses that cause HFMD can remain in the body for weeks after a patient's symptoms have gone away. This means that the infected person can still pass the infection to other people even though he/she appears well. Also, some persons who are infected and excreting the virus, including most adults, may have no symptoms.

HFMD is not transmitted to or from pets or other animals.

Treatment:
There is no specific treatment for hand, foot and mouth disease. Individual symptoms, such as fever and pain from the sores, may be eased with the use of medication. HFMD is a viral disease that has to run its course; many doctors do not issue medicine for this illness, unless the infection is severe. Infection in older children, adolescents, and adults is normally very mild and lasts around 1 week or sometimes more. Fever reducers will help to control high temperatures. Luke-warm baths will also help bring temperature down.

There is no specific treatment for this infection so better if noticed the signs and symptoms listed above in our children we better consult the doctor or specialists for HFMD so situation will not grow worst and we can prevent the spread of HFMD.

I joined last week, that was my first entry supposedly but I my post was not recognized. Aunt Grace of Gracia Fashionista advised me to place my first entry upon posting my link so I can attract many visitor to view my post. Let me see if it gonna work.

1. My favorite month is December because this is a time where we can have family reunion.

2. I want to breath a fresh breeze.

3. I love to sniff the aroma of brewed "starbucks" coffee .

I just suggest we gonna have "parade of flags" as a culminating activity for the United Nations Celebrations. I am a subject teacher of HE-Heograpiya, KA-Kasaysayan at SI- Sibika. They responded creatively. I was surprise they wore their colorful costume. Not only that, they prepared yells and cheers for their continent! Education should not only teach them to eat fish but to teach them how to catch a big fish!

As Facilitator, Teacher is generous, willing to share her ideas to other teacher. Guiding participants in the Seminar.

Being a teacher is a noble task. It requires patience, endurance, and commitment. It is just fitting to honor teachers. Good that the World recognizes through Celebrating "World Teacher"s Day- My Teacher,My Hero!"

My Yummy Sunday KFC Fried Chicken

Our Tatay Tony when he visited Philippines last June 29, brought his grandchildren and my brother JD to

KFC, he ordered 3 buckets. In his 3 weeks of stay in CDO he had visted KFC Lim Ket Kai and SM branch five times. The kids were delighted to eat "finger licking good" to their stomach content. It was a festivity with KFC.

That is why Tatay Tony e-mailed to us this KFC Copycat fried Chicken recipe. He knows how his "apos" love it. A copycat if you want but better go to KFC outlet right away!

A copycat recipe of Kentucky Fried Chicken

Chicken
6 pieces chicken-cleaned and trimmed of excess fat

Brine
Water to cover chicken
1 Tablespoon Salt
1 teaspoon MSG (optional)

Flour
1 1/2 cup self-raising flour (If you don't have self-raising flour just add 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to the flour)

Egg Wash
2 eggs-beaten
1/3 cup milk

Kentucky Fried Chicken Spice
1 tablespoon thyme
1 tablespoon oregano leaves
1 tablespoon powdered sage
1 teaspoon powdered ginger
1 teaspoon marjoram
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons pepper
1 teaspoon white pepper
1 tablespoon paprika
2 tablespoons garlic salt
2 tablespoons onion salt
1 teaspoon accent or msg (OPTIONAL)

Add 2-3 Tablespoons mix to every 1 1/2 cup of flour for coating chicken.

OIL
6-8 cups Crisco (this can be any solid shortening) shortening - This will depend on your deep fryer

Directions
Place all those 11 herbs and spices ingredients in a grinder or in a blender and pulse for 3-4 minutes to pulverize. Store in an airtight container. Once ground spices will lose their flavor faster than when they are whole. This makes about 3/4 cup. (If you don't have a blender or food processor then put the herbs and spices in a towel, roll it up, and beat it with a hammer.)

Flour
Add 2-3 tablespoons of the spice mixture to flour whisking well. Remove 1/2 cup flour/spice mixture and place in bowl or a plastic or paper sack for first coating of chicken. Add the remaining 1 cup flour/spice mixture in 2nd bowl or sack.

Egg Wash
Mix together in medium bowl for dipping chicken pieces.

Let's get started.
Chicken - Step 1
In a large bowl place cleaned chicken in salted (1 Tablespoon salt + 1 teaspoon MSG, still optional) water to cover chicken. Let soak at least 2 hours in refrigerator.
Step 2
Dry chicken with paper (doesn't have to be paper)( laugh! remember when I bought the paper towels last year? Everyone laughed becoz you use real towels not paper. It was funny!) towels. Dredge in 1/2 cup of the flour mixture, shaking off excess. Do all pieces of chicken, one at a time and set on rack until next step. If you have any remaining flour mixture from this 1/2 cup portion add to 2nd sack.
Step 3
Dip into egg/water mixture, allowing excess to drip off.
Step 4
Add any left over flour from the 1/2 cup used for the first coating step into bag with the 1 cup flour/seasoning mixture. Place chicken pieces one at a time, in bag with flour mixture and shake to coat well. Arrange chicken pieces on rack over large cookie sheet and let dry up to 30 minutes.

For extra crispy coating, repeat egg wash and flour mixture.

Frying
Add FRESH Crisco to the deep fryer (or pressure fryer). Heat oil 350 degrees, gently add chicken to oil, 1piece at a time. Do not add more than 3 pieces to each batch. Fry 12-15 minutes, until chicken is thoroughly cooked. Drain chicken and keep in warm oven while frying remaining chicken. Cooking time may vary especially if using a pressure fryer.

I used to have a problem- difficulty to sleep especially when I lapse my sleeping time. This also strikes me when I am away from home or I am travelling. Worst thing is my body wants to rest but your mind is still wandering. It's tiresome. I end up waking up with hyper acidity. But I can't just take any pills to drowse me as I also heard many sad story about well-known people who's life became miserable as they became addicted to it. Not only miserable but over using caused their lives:List of drugs related death

   But I appreciate DJ Moby for saying "NO" to sleeping pills . Maybe he opt for another way to resolved his insomnia.

5th Yummy Sunday, Mellow Yellow Monday

   " Spaghetti" an Italian food that has become part of Filipinos celebrations. Gathering would not be complete without this goody on our table. Filipinos have different way of cooking that soothes their taste and appetite. Some would like it sweet, other love it spicy topped with herbs, while others enjoy it a little sour and sweet.

   My kids love this stuff but they are choosy of the taste. They prefer not too sweet and not too sour but saucy. They only eat spaghetti that I and "ate Pie" cook. Even my brother would always long to taste the spag that I cook. They always look forward to New Years and other special occasions. They say my spag is different from others it is the best Spaghetti from their point of "taste" I mean view.

   I make it sure that the pasta is not over cooked it should be firm. And the sauce should have a blend of Filipino taste and an Italian. I do not add condensed milk as others did. I add mushrooms sliced into bits, I use del Monte Spaghetti sauce,the pasta is also DM and the top secret of my recipe is del Monte Pineapple juice. It enhances the taste of my spaghetti!

This frame is displayed as center picture in our living room. This was cross-stitched sometime in 2004. My friend encouraged me to have it framed in her sister-in-law's Saint Glass Supplier and frame Center, located in Vamenta Boulevard, Carmen Cagayan de Oro Philippines. I was able to get a discount for the labor and material. I thank Glenda for her persistence of telling me to have it framed. Whenever somebody visits our home, they would always appreciate my "Sleeping Clown" frame!

Happy Birthday Mom, Missed You Much

Mother when she was hospitalized, supposedly for surgical procedure stint should be inserted on her ureter her right kidney was blocked with tumor that is caused by cervical cancer metastasis.
But the laboratory show that it wont be possible since her lungs and liver were also damage but look she still can smile!

She died last August 15, 2009. But I want to remember her birthday than her day of death!

I am touched whenever I saw father takes care of kids. In my thoughts it must be heaven!

Nothing in my memories any thought of my father's care and concern. He left us in our mother's hand. He wandered and maybe forgot all about us. Then, he came back but with another family. So sad!

God has blessed me with a family that I know would not leave me and my kids like an orphan. I thank him for the father He has given to my children.

But I still praise God though I never had any experience of father's concern and love when I was a kid I know I have a Father in heaven who takes care of me He never leaves nor forsakes me!

Spectacular Sight

Last Sunday May 29 2010, a festival of fireworks was sponsored by SM, Cagayan de Oro in lined with the City Festival. Spectators swarmed the open filled of SM and the surrounding areas.
There were seven entry for the said activity. Each one presented a very unique, multicolored and wonderful fireworks.

My kids exclaimed "WOW!" every time the display captivated their eyes. It was really a wonderful time. Everyone was having a wonderful time.

Noodle Making

Last August 24-26, 2010, Sola Gratia Ministries held the First Women's Conference in the Philippines. It was held in the Bible Camp, Tago Tandag, Surigao del Sur. It was indeed a very fruitful event especially for us women designed by God in the Ministry He called us.
The activities was varied. We are not only filled with the Word of God but we are also taught how to feed our family with fresh and without chemical, preservative foods. We did some bread making, pasties -cookies, cake baking, meat processing and of course fresh noodles for the family.

My kids love noodles, so I was very eager to learn how to make it.The kneading is simple but the turning of it to strands was a tough job especially when you have to cut it with knife manually. I wish hubby and I could buy a noodle maker and other baking equipments.

Fish Fillet is one of the menu my kids love. So I make sure to prepare it during special occasion. Some would have it cut into rectangular shape but we prefer to have it sticks. They really love the crunchy, yummy taste of it.

A day before we dropped by a food chain just to get snack for the kids on our way home.As I was ordering the food that the kids would like to have my attention was caught to this sign:..... I did not have a camera, so I just use my hubby's cellphone though the camera was not that really good.

I was stunned by this sign I saw in one our favorite Fast food chain in this city. Praying that all establishment can implement this

This should really be posted in every establishment so that the elderly/ senior citizens can have the access of their rights and benefits anytime anywhere.

I am not a prowess photographer and don't have a powerful camera. Still learning. Captivated by the beauty of sunset.

I really love sky watching. I love watching the figures and patterns formed in the sky. It widens my imagination. It made me creative.It even give a glimpse of heaven that God prepard for His children.

This was captured during the most tragic time when I have to stay beside an ailing mother. Who's days are already numbered. I then was able to make a poem about it.

Sunset reminds me of God's grace

After a stormy day, the sign of a brighter tomorrow

A hope to look forward

The end of the gloomy way.

I love sunset, it is the time to rest and play

The long day work is done

It is a family reunion

of every member that has been away from home.

Friends loves at all times

These are puppies of Rusky, our pet in CBC office and fellowship center. They are just weened from their mother. We brought them to Brother Noel's care. Sooner they will become like their mom the "watchdog".

They are trainable dogs. I hope I could find tips from the internet on how to train puppies. Could you suggest?

Meet Bugs and Bunny a token of friendship from our friend

   Our kids really love pets. So many times they asked me, " could I have this? could I have that as pet?" No words will they hear from me. The answer is just a raise of eyebrows. they knew what that means. Though I agree that letting them have pet is a way for them to become responsible. I have to rationalize with the principle. I am not afraid with the responsibility but I am concerned with the attachment the pet would bring to them and to us.
   I recalled, Once when I was a kid I have had a pet named Kenny a cross-breed of Japanese Spitz and Terrier. We just found him when we had a morning walk near the park. He followed us so we brought that dog home. He had been the center of care as pet for four years. One summer the family went to the beach we brought him along. Everyone seems to enjoy the beach and forgot Kenny. When we were about to leave the area everyone looked at each other with our eyes asking "where is Kenny?". Though how we tried to look for that dog it is nowhere to be found. I cried lots of tears for that pet.
   This is the very reason I don't like pets at home.But our friend Pastor Jun gave us a pair of bunnies. I can't say no to my hubby who is very excited to have them. It is his house and he is the boss. So bugs and bunny became the pet of everybody. Though I have little apprehensions about having pets I know with the help of God and information on the Internet we can be a responsible pet owners.

Memories full of love and happiness with mama Nona and Tatay Tony

Race, language and customs differences are not hindrance for anybody to cross ways through God's divine purpose and appointed time.

It was almost a year when God allowed us to meet a friend from Arizona, USA. He was my mother's special friend. When he learned about my mother's terminal situation without hesitation, he flew 6649 miles to show his love and concern for the woman she just knew through internet.

I believe every situation is not by chance. God appointed it to be. "It was clear still clear to memory my mother's feeling when we fetched him in the airport. Filled with excitement and joy though she was sick... really sick because of cancer that also weakened her kidneys and lungs, you can never see a glimpse of weakness in her. She became so alive, full of vigor and love. I saw her like a teen ager going to her first date.

It was a meeting of happiness. The fulfillment of the much awaited friendship-the gift from the Lord." The presence of that friend brought so much sunshine to my mother's remaining days. She was stronger than ever. She was able to stand alone. Her aura had improved, if you are not her kin that knew her situation you cannot say she's sick.It was God's way of comforting my mother, I believed. He allowed that friendship even how short it was for a purpose.

The gift that binds them did not stop after the death of my mother.He also became our friend. Not only friend but a father sent from heaven.We have not experience the life of having a father in the flesh because our father left us when we were yet kids. God allowed us to experience it through this man. We call him Tatay Tony.

God's ways are higher than our ways nor His thoughts higher than our thoughts.We did not know how the love of friendship binds our different lives together. It is a miracle from God. It was indeed made from heaven.

Summer Delight with Friends

Some of us look farther. We do not notice that in our own locality there are also spots that can be compared to the places we dream to visit. This is not bad but my point is let us enjoy every God's creation. We don't have to go far and spend much to relax enjoy.

In Cagwait, Tandag ,Surigao del Sur. There is a beach resort almost like Boracay. This is not fully developed yet and untouched by human hand. Architectural development has not destroyed it's natural beauty. The water is still crystal clear. Pollution is not yet known in this paradise.

Last summer of 2009, our friends with some relatives were blessed to have visit this paradise and enjoy it's beauty. We're having fun under the sun. The young we're enjoying "batin" and dancing ball in the water. It seems that we didn't notice that the day is almost over. We did not notice the time ran so fast. we were careless then. We didn't want the excitement to end but it should.

The fun and memories we had is once in a lifetime. We should praise God for all the things He allowed us to experience. We should also give thanks to Him for the gift of friendship and the delight it brings.

Friendship in Biking

My best friend, my husband rolled into one, "chadah".......Hywel Mark Llesis. He likes catching up some friends bicycling during weekends. He gained lots of it through his past time. It make him physically fit. It helps him gain stamina and endurance.

Anton his friend encouraged him to join their "cyclist" group. These are group of men who went bicycling from Cagayan de Oro to as far as any place in Mindanao or even Visayas. My husband had joined them for several fun ride but he was always left behind and came back leaving the group as he is grasping his oxygen....poor hubby! He is just a neophyte while his company are already experts and some had won in tournaments.

He still wants to pursue this kind of hobby not to make him a winning bicyclist but to make him physically healthy and disciplined. He also takes time to take care of his friend "Bikee" his bike.
